Nothing ever happens
If you look closely, at your life, the life of your friends and family, you might notice that nothing ever really happens. Moments pass by and are gone, forever. And in these moments, in the moment as you read this word, nothing is happening and there is no-one it is happening to. Only experience flowing.
We rush from one moment to the next, busy with anxiety and stress with all the small happenings in our life, and preparing for the next moment, in the future, and forget to rest in now. And when the moment in the future becomes now, it also passes by and is gone forever, as we forget to rest in it and instead busy ourselves planning for the next moment.
Or maybe you are re-living that moment from last week, last year, justifying to yourself that you were right. Who is this you? Can you find her? Tell me where she is.
Happenings feel so significant at the time, but play your mind back and try to find the lasting impact of that time, ten years ago, when you were angry, stressed and frustrated. Or happy beyond belief. It is gone. Nothing is there in the moment now, apart from you imagining it in your mind. But this can only ever be a poor reflection of the moment you are trying to remember. Reflected through your mind with its own story to tell of what happened. All that is is habit. It is meaningless, unless you hold onto it and give it meaning, to make you feel safe. You are safe already, you just don't know it.
We forget to rest in the moment, and are consumed with all the happenings of the mind. We fail to notice that it all passes by effortlessly and without impact, and it does so without any help from ourselves.
Look into nature. Examine what you see. Do the trees, flowers, wind, and your next door neighbour’s cat appear anxious or stressed? Do they spend all their effort preparing for the future which never comes? There is no future. Only experience flowing in the moment, now. Future is a thought in your mind, being experienced now. See this and be free.
We can relax and rest in nature and quietly witness all that flows effortlessly through us.
Nothing to do and nothing ever happens.
